An Indian restaurant in Oldham that blends Bombay-inspired street food with fine dining has celebrated its third birthday and has announced big plans for 2023.
Khau Galli situated on Oldham Road promises to deliver a "unique" and "premium" dining experience with its authentic Bombay street food.
The name itself derives from Bombay, with Khau meaning "favourite snack" and Galli referring to "small lane".
There are several Khau Gallis across Bombay, but just the one here in Oldham which, aside from offering a wide variety of authentic street food, also acts as a meeting and social hub for the community and fundraises for charitable causes all year round.
Owner, Kamal Rob, said he opened the business with a vision to "give something different to Oldham" compared to other Indian restaurants and built his Indian street food menu from scratch.
Mr Rob added: "I love giving back to the community as I have through my other businesses, so I figured the best way to stay in touch with the community is to have a restaurant where all the locals come together and enjoy great food."
On Monday, December 19, the restaurant celebrated its third birthday and thanked loyal customers for their "continued support".
In the past three years, the restaurant revealed it has faced some struggles - notably the Covid pandemic, the end of which was its first full year of business.
Mr Rob said: "We never lost hope and we have done all we can to stay afloat while helping our staff and vulnerable people.
"In the third year, as we came out of the pandemic, the team, myself and my business partners worked very hard to put things in motion and bring the business back to where I wanted it."
However, Khau Galli also announced 2023 will be a big year for the restaurant with a fresh ambition to engage in even more charitable projects.
To name just a few recent achievements, the restaurant raised more than £1,500 for the Pakistan flood appeal, £550 for the Mayor of Oldham's charities and £380 for Mahdlo Youth Zone.
It is also in partnership with Oldham Athletic Football Club - but the next 12 months Mr Rob said he hopes to expand on his vision to create a "restaurant for the community" with new charity projects to unite people.
Amongst the plans include a monthly charity project led by customers which is funded by the restaurant, a family funday at Khau Galli, regular charity events at the restaurant and an international 'feed the needy' project.
Mr Rob added: "I'm fortunate to have a team and business partners that share the same vision as me.
"I look forward to 2023 and sincerely thank all our customers for the unconditional love and support they give us."
In a post on social media, Khau Galli said it hopes customers will stand by the restaurant as it continues to grow.
"We can't thank you enough for all the love and appreciation you have shown us over the past three years, and we look forward to giving you more deliciousness in return.
"Happy third anniversary to Khau Galli.
"Here's to many more years of keeping everyone satisfied with our top-quality Indian street food", it concluded.
