A popular fish and chips shop in Oldham was forced to close this week after suffering from a major flood just a week before Christmas.
Selwyn's Fish and Chips situated on High Street is a family-run business that has been serving the people of Lees and the wider borough for more than two decades.
The shop says it prides itself on providing traditional English fish and chips.
However, on Sunday, December 18, disaster struck when a "huge flood" from the flat above affected the chippy.
Owners Susan and Gavin Dunnington said the water came from a pipe from the cistern in the flat above.
They explained: "It cracked in two places, sending water through the flat ceiling and then into our business below.
"It's just one of those things - and due to the cold weather."
The damaged ceiling meant the shop was only able to open for an hour on Monday and the pair said they are currently "trying our best to stay open in the run-up to Christmas".
Fortunately, they were able to open as normal on Tuesday after urgently ushering in some quick repairs and buying some equipment that was water damaged.
In a post on social media, the pair wrote: "Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
"Please excuse the way the ceiling looks until we can get it sorted", the post concluded.
One loyal customer commented: "Oh no, I hope you get it sorted soon. Best chippy in Lees."
