The site of a former hairdresser in Failsworth is set to become a coffee shop and house in multiple occupancy (HMO) after a planning proposal was approved.

Plans were originally submitted in August which looked to turn what was previously Sheila Gregory Hair Stylist on Oldham Road into a ground floor coffee shop and a two-bedroom HMO on the first floor.

The building itself is a semi-detached two-storey property that sits on the corner where Oldham Road meets Mellor Street, with the first floor currently in residential use.

The ground floor unit attached to the property serves as a post office.

The only external change to the building will be that of a new ground floor window, which is expected to have minimal impact on the building itself.

The case officer, who recommended the planning authority to approve the application, concluded the development would "not harm the character of the surrounding area" or cause any harm to neighbours.

There was only one public comment on the application itself, where a resident expressed their objection to the proposal due to concerns over parking and the potential smell that would be emitted from the coffee shop.

The plans were approved on behalf of the council on Friday, December 2.
