An IT consultancy company based in Oldham held a series of workshops in a Huddersfield college to prepare them for business success.
Aspect IT, which is going to be celebrating its 20th birthday in business next year, visited students at the White Rose School of Health and Beauty in Huddersfield to deliver tech-based workshops.
The workshops were designed to educate the youngsters aged 16 to 19 on the importance of cybersecurity and social media in business.
The college has been established as a "centre of excellence" as it offers an extensive range of courses in beauty therapy to prepare students for excellent career opportunities in the industry.
The first workshop, held by marketing executive, Hannah Dooley, led a discussion on the significance of a digital footprint and examined how to reduce the risks of cyberattacks and how to identify a potential cyberattack through phishing and spam emails.
The second workshop then focussed on emphasising the importance of social media in business and Hannah shared her expertise to inspire the students to feel confident in marketing themselves on digital platforms when they move into employment.
Hannah showed the students how to set up a business social media page, following the steps through from the planning stage to the execution of content and how to display professionalism online.
Hannah said: “Social media is vital for all businesses to build credibility and market themselves, no matter what sector they’re in.
"By teaching the students how to utilise social media effectively, it gives them a head start when they come to starting their own business or move into employment.”
Clare Dorotiak, lecturer at The White Rose School of Health and Beauty added: "Both groups really enjoyed the session.
"Everyone found the examples and ways to spot a phishing email useful.
"The learners were especially interested in the tips Hannah shared to help them promote their own business on social media.”
Aspect IT, founded in 2003 by directors Peter and Ian, hope to deliver more workshops in the future to local organisations to stress the importance of cybersecurity and assist in levelling up marketing strategies through social media.
