An Oldham townswomen's guild which was inspired by the suffrage movement has celebrated its 60th anniversary in Royton.
The Royton Townswomen's Guild (TG) was formed in 1962 by a group of women in Royton and the surrounding area with the ambition to create a space for women to "learn, speak their minds, make friends and most importantly, have fun".
The townswomen's guild is an empowering organisation for women with branches up and down the country still in existence.
The initiative stemmed from the suffrage movement and the Royton group has enjoyed a growing membership in recent years.
Royton TG continues to stand as an asset to the local community and members can benefit from regular speakers, outings, bowling club, book club a 'knit and natter group' and much more.
Incredibly, one of the founding members of Royton Townswomen's Guild, Dorothy Grime, is still a member to this day.
Barbara Micklethwaite, Chairman of Royton Townswomen’s Guild, said: “I am thrilled to be celebrating our 60th anniversary amongst so many friends, friends of whom I have had the pleasure of meeting thanks to this wonderful organisation.
“We are extremely fortunate to have a strong membership and I hope this continues for many years to come.
“I would urge anyone looking for fun and friendship to join us.
"There’s so much you can get involved with and the support is second to none.
“We are one big TG family and it has enriched my life in many ways, and I know our members feel the same way.”
