A Labour councillor who has been suspended due to internal party matters has been named by multiple sources as Cllr Graham Shuttleworth, who represents Chadderton South.
Oldham Labour says the suspension is unrelated to an as-yet-unnamed councillor who has been arrested on suspicion of rape.
Oldham Council said it would not comment on party political matters.
Oldham Labour would not confirm who the councillor was but said they had been suspended by the party’s National Executive Committee, the party’s governing body.
The committee includes Failsworth MP Angela Rayner in its membership, due to her role as the Labour Party’s deputy leader.
The suspension appears to have resulted from a dispute of some kind, as when asked if the councillor was Cllr Graham Shuttleworth directly by The Oldham Times, Oldham Labour provided this statement: “The matter is being dealt with by the NEC.
“It would not be appropriate to comment further on a live disciplinary matter as both parties are entitled to a fair hearing.”
The national Labour Party did not respond to repeated requests for comment.
Cllr Graham Shuttleworth did not respond to email or repeated phone calls.
