An opening date has been announced for a new cafe in a Shaw park, which will replace the space left by a former popular cafe.

The Woodlands Cafe will open in Dunwood Park later this month with a grand opening Halloween party on Saturday, October 29.

It replaces the Dunwood Park Cafe, which closed in March this year, a few months earlier than its initial planned closure in July.

The opening party will take place between 10am and 4pm, with pumpkin carving and entertainment for the children along with food available for all visitors.

The cafe will be the second Woodlands cafe to be opened, with one location currently open at The Willows Dementia Hub on Fieldway, Rochdale.

While that cafe serves the permanent residents at the dementia hub, this cafe will be a general one open to all.

Gail Whitehead, chief officer at GP Care Services, which operates the dementia hub and the cafe, previously said: "We're really excited for the opportunity and to work with the community."

Speaking in August, she said a refurbishment of the site would take place, while the cafe would be dog-friendly and would be looking to involve local schools to help students get work experience, as they do at The Willows.

From 2019 until its closure, the Dunwood Park Cafe was operated by Pure Innovations, a Stockport-based charity that supports people with disabilities.

The cafe employed people with disabilities, however, the impact Covid had on its business and its employees meant it was forced to close its doors for good.

This was partly due to the disabled employees no longer being attracted to working in the cafe.
