Ashton Canal is planned to reopen to navigation later this month.

Due to low water levels, parts of Ashton Canal, between Manchester and Droylsden, have been closed to navigation by watercraft for more than a month, since Friday, September 9.

The canal was previously closed just a week before it last closed for two weeks.

Now, the Canal & River Trust has announced it will be re-opening for a short while.

In an update, the Trust said: “Due to an improvement in water levels, in addition to the planned re-opening of the surrounding canals, navigation will resume along the Ashton Canal from Friday, October 21, for a period of 10 days, with last passage on Monday, October 31 to allow customers to return back to home or winter moorings.

Should customers find themselves approaching an empty pound during this navigational window, please contact our North West Customer Support Team for assistance on 0303 040 4040.

This window of navigation remains subject to the weather over the next coming weeks.”
