Part of the plans to develop the 160-acre Northern Roots site will be decided on by the planning committee next week.

In August, the part of the application which included the plans for a bike hub and cycle trails were approved unanimously by the planning committee at a meeting.

Now, a separate part of the application which focuses on the creation of a visitor centre, a learning centre and an events hub, along with other matters, will be decided on.

A report which has been put together ahead of the meeting has recommended the plans receive approval.

The visitor centre would include multiple facilities such as a reception, a shop, a café, a multi-use and interpretation space, multifaith prayer and meditation space and toilets.

A natural amphitheatre for schools and community groups to use will be located nearby the visitor centre, with the design set to have a "natural appearance" that will be "sympathetic to the surrounding landscape".

As for the events building, it is set to be based close to the visitor centre and will have "conference type facilities", including three meeting room pods outside of the building.

The report said the designs of the building and pods will allow them to "blend in with their natural environment".

As for the learning centre, it set to be situated at the southern part of the site and will act as a good focal point between the Visitor Centre and Bike Hub.

It will be made up of five single storey buildings grouped closely together surrounding a communal outdoor teaching space.

It will contain a reception, teaching kitchen and breakout space, staff facilities, multi-faith prayer and meditation space, classrooms, toilets, and bunkhouse along with the outdoor learning area.

The site of the learning centre was chosen deliberately due to the woodland in the area being affected by ash dieback, meaning the trees in this area need to be removed regardless of the proposal.

Other parts of the application include four existing football pitches being refurbished, with two of them relocating next to Glodwick Cricket Club, and access improvements to the Northern Roots site along with new car parking areas.

The planning committee will decide on the plans on Wednesday, October 12.
