A selection of soldiers and officers belonging to the Failsworth Army Reserve Centre were given special medals in recognition of their service in an 'emotional' parade hosted last weekend in commemoration of the Queen.
Last weekend (September 24-25) Failsworth Army Reserve Centre hosted a special parade for its soldiers and their family and friends to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II.
Adam Nicholson, Second Lieutenant field troop commander, said the day’s event was an “emotional” tribute which allowed soldiers and officers to reflect and give gratitude to Her Majesty’s 70-year-long service to the country.
However, the event also gave the reserve the prime opportunity to present its Failsworth team with the Queens Platinum Jubilee Medal.
Many officers and soldiers who had received five Certificates of Efficiency were due to receive the medal earlier in the year before the Queen had passed but were unable to due to training requirements.
Captain Chris Jones, who was recently appointed as acting Major of the 202 Field Squadron, put significant time and effort into the weekend to make it special.
A number of VIP guests were invited to attend, alongside friends and family of those in receipt of the medal.
Second Lieutenant Nicholson said: “It was a special day for everyone involved.
“I felt extremely proud watching the troops receive the recognition for their commitment which was made even more meaningful with the tragic loss of her majesty.
“The soldiers were all very grateful to receive the medal which is something I am sure they will cherish for the rest of their lives.
“They are really proud to show their hard work and commitment to their friends and family.”
