The Canal and River Trust has announced navigation on the Ashton Canal can resume two weeks after it was closed.

Low water levels meant the canal was closed to watercraft, but as water levels have now begun to rise the Trust says the canal can re-open.

In an official notice, the Trust, which manages the Canal, said the Ashton Canal would be re-opened for navigation from 8am on Monday, September 5.

The trust said: “We are pleased to advise water levels have increased and the pounds are replenishing well between Lock 1 and Lock 18 on the Ashton Canal.

“We are allowing water levels to continue to recharge over the weekend and navigation will resume from 8am, Monday, September 5.”

The full notice can be read on the Trust’s website.
