First Manchester has confirmed that its ticketing systems have been adjusted to process capped single and day fares, as agreed with mayor Andy Burnham and the Great Manchester Combined Authority.

The slashed fares will be introduced this weekend, Sunday, September 4.

Oldhamers reacted with delight after the changes were confirmed last month.

Single fares will be a maximum of £2 for adults and £1 for children.

As before the changes, those aged 11 to 16 need an igo card, which costs £10, to use child tickets on Greater Manchester buses.

Those aged 16 to 18 can still use the ‘Our Pass’ scheme to travel free on bus services, after a one-off £10 fee, across the region.

Day ticket prices will be reduced to £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, and will be available to buy on the bus or the First Bus app.

Current cross-boundary journeys that go beyond Greater Manchester will continue to be possible using the FirstDay ticket.

Those wishing to use multiple bus operators will also be able to use the AnyBus 1-day travel card at the same price as the FirstDay ticket but will need to make sure they ask for the correct ticket.
