A video has shown the size and devastation of a fire that took place at Dovestone Reservoir on Monday (July 11) night, going into Tuesday morning.

Fire crews from 10 different fire station across Greater Manchester were called to the incident near Bank Lane at around 11pm on Monday night.

Firefighters remained on the scene throughout the night and into Tuesday morning, using hose reels and lighting to bring the fire under control.

In total, there were four large seats of fire in a woodland area, which roughly 70 firefighters tackled.

The video footage, taken by firefighter Aaron Lee, shows a long stretch of fire burning the earth.

He praised the efforts of all the crews and partner agencies who prevented the situation from getting worse.

The fire followed another which had taken place the night before at Yeoman Hey Reservoir, the reservoir just north of Dovestone.

On that occasion, fire crews from four station spent around three hours at the site dealing with a woodland blaze.

Many wildfires which happen in Greater Manchester and other places are believed to be started deliberately, either maliciously or by people having barbecues.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service warn people not to light fires and there has been a crackdown on punishments for those who do.

People caught lighting barbecues and fires, as well as setting off fireworks and sky lanterns, can be fined £100, with those failing to pay could the fine can be prosecuted through the courts.
