A new mural celebrating unity, the environment, food, scenery, and religion has been unveiled in Glodwick.

Social enterprise Fresh Beleaf has unveiled the mural, which was produced in Glodwick by a group of Muslim girls in collaboration with Manchester artist Toubie Jack.

The mural, located on Nugget Street in Oldham, is designed to reflect the values of local groups. It is publicly accessible and can be seen by those passing by.

Designed from scratch by the girls, they painted the mural onto the wall in free hand.

The girls completed the mural as part of their Silver Arts Award, and hope to make an impact on their local green space.

Made up of hexagons to represent a bee’s honeycomb, each hexagon has its own theme, chosen by the girls: unity, environment, food, scenery, and religion.

Organiser Kim Van Belois, founder of Fresh Beleaf, hopes the mural will inspire people and community groups to get in touch to add extra hexagons of their own to the mural.

Kim said: “The mural is the launch of a larger-scale effort to transform a local green space into a safe social setting for local members of the community to have a place to learn, grow and thrive.

“The proposed space includes community gardening, artistic contributions from local women, children, youth and artists, as well as creative seating and outdoor climbing and swings.
