MANCHESTER City players dined at an Oldham restaurant ahead of their breathless Premier League win.
Sul Lago, an Italian restaurant in Daisy Nook, was booked out by the team’s captain Fernandinho ahead of the title decider against Aston Villa on Sunday, which saw the team win their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.
The team headed to the restaurant situated over the rolling fields of Daisy Nook Country Park on Monday, May 16 to celebrate Fernandinho’s nine-year stint as a Manchester City player and mark the final week of the season.
Sunday’s game at the Etihad Stadium was the 37-year-old’s last for City. He is returning to Brazil this week having signed a three-year contract with an unnamed club.
More than 90 people from players, kitmen, and coaching staff to pot washers attended the 15-course meal to say farewell to Fernandinho.
Food served included king prawn arancini, braised octopus, burrata with cherry tomatoes, home-made pork sausages with peppers, penne with porcini mushrooms and black truffle, casarecce pasta with fresh monkfish, fresh tuna, and king prawns.
There was a mix of desserts to finish including tiramisu, rum baba with pistachio cream and Delizia al Limone.
During Monday’s meal players posed for pictures with the restaurant’s staff and Ederson the team’s goalkeeper pulled pints behind the bar with Sul Lago’s chef-owner Aldo Lucci.
Discussing Monday’s meal, Aldo, who has owned the restaurant for 21 years, said: “There were drinks, food, and speeches. There was so much food, and they ate it all.
“Fernandinho has been to the restaurant before and loves the food and the restaurant’s location. He can relax here and has brought his family before.”
City manager Pep Guardiola was also in attendance and allowed players to drink alcohol for the occasion.
Aldo said: “Guardiola knows his wine and food and loves the food here. He spent time in Italy and speaks fluent Italian. At the end of the meal, he gave me a hug and thanked me.”
On Monday, a week after the Sul Lago visit, the team celebrated their win with a parade around Manchester city centre.
Thousands lined the streets as the open-top bus parade made its way through the centre.
