A former Oldham maths teacher has raised more than £100,000 for charity after running a total of 313 kilometres from Oldham to London in just 22 days.
Now he’s hoping to more than triple the amount he’s raised to £313,000 - £1,000 for each kilometre he’s run.
Afruz Miah is Muslim and completed the amazing feat during the month of Ramadan – meaning he couldn’t have any food or drink during daylight hours – even water.
The charity he was fundraising for, Global Relief Trust (GRT), say they are trying to help alleviate suffering around the world after the impact of the pandemic by providing food packages.
Afruz, who has been awarded a British Empire Medal for his fundraising, began running in 2019 following a health scare.

Last year, he took on his biggest challenge yet and ran an amazing 31 km in just 22 days, all the way from Oldham to London.
Afruz said the hardest part of the challenge was being without his family during the holy month of Ramadan.
Now Afruz and the team from the GRT have completed the challenge again, all while fasting during this year’s Ramadan.
This time, however, they had set the huge goal of raising £313,000.
Over the course of 22 days, Afruz ran a total distance of 313 kilometres – and they’ve already raised over £100,000.
Having just got back from climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for charity in February, Afruz said: “The running and constant motion has been a struggle and my body has had to adapt.”
He added: “It is a struggle, but [last year] was also the first Ramadan without my family.
“Ramadan is a time for family and I’m having to sacrifice that, but I’ve been to places like Burundi and refugee camps in Rohingya and I’ve seen children with no parents and mourning widows so that has kept me going.”
Now the charity is hoping to drum up support for further donations to show congratulations to Afruz and to help the team reach their target of £313,000.
Donations can be made on the campaign’s Givebrite page.
