AN amateur rugby league club in Chadderton has reported that it has had its roof "smashed" by vandals.

Hollinwood ARLFC on Fields New Road was reportedly targeted at around 6pm last night, Thursday, April 28.

The club has urged anyone who may have seen the incident to come forward and described the vandalism as "detrimental" to the club which "barely survived" the Covid-19 pandemic.

The rugby club has published several pictures of the destruction the vandals have allegedly caused in a post on its Facebook page.

The post reads: “Hollinwood ARLFC have fallen victim to ridiculous and unnecessary vandalism.

“This week we have come down and the roof has been smashed for absolutely no reason whatsoever.

“Anyone who knows anything or anyone who has seen anything please drop us a message for a club who has barely survived Covid this is detrimental.

“Any information given will be confidential.

“The police have been contacted and residents have been spoken to.”

The club is currently waiting for a crime reference number from the police.

The pictures published by the club show a damaged section of the roof where multiple tiles appear to be smashed.

Another image seems to show pieces of the broken roof tiles scattered on the ground.

Hollinwood Amateur Rugby League offers players of all ages, genders, and skill sets a route into rugby league.

The club is also currently developing a Mini's and Youth section to support and engage with the community of South Chadderton.

Fitness and handling skills sessions take place on Tuesdays and touch rugby sessions take place on Thursdays.

The club encourages anyone with an ambition to get fit and enjoys rugby league to get in touch.

Greater Manchester Police have been contacted regarding the alleged vandalism.
