A GREATER Manchester Police officer has been dismissed from the force – but almost all information on the case is to remain a secret on the orders of the Chief Constable.

The dismissal was decided at a hearing at GMP's North Manchester HQ on Wednesday, April 20.

According to an outcome published by the police last week, the officer was accused of breaches of Standards of Professional Behaviour in the Police (Conduct) Regulations.

These were the standards of discreditable conduct and honesty and integrity.

But the identity of the officer and the exact circumstances of the breaches are to remain a secret.

The Oldham Times understands this was a decision by Chief Constable Stephen Watson.

The accusations were proven and the officer was dismissed without notice.

The outcome published by the police reads: "An Accelerated Misconduct Hearing involving a Greater Manchester Police officer was held on Wednesday, April 20, at 1pm at Force HQ.

"A GMP officer answered allegations that their conduct amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour for Honesty and Integrity and Discreditable Conduct contrary to the Police (Conduct) Regulations 2020.

"The allegations were found proven and the officer was dismissed without notice."

GMP's website stresses the importance of an 'open' and 'transparent' system to deal with officers who breach Standards of Professional Behaviour.

But it also explains a hearing might be held in secret if national security, the prevention of crime or the welfare of the parties involved are affected.

The force did not confirm which of these applied to the hearing last week.
