A MEN’S mental health group in Oldham is set to host a celebratory event this June to mark its fifth anniversary.
Andy’s Man Club is holding the event at the Oldham Event Centre, the home of the club’s weekly meetings, which will be providing food for the celebration.
The free annual event is the first to be held by the club in two years after previous events were cancelled due to the pandemic.
Discussing the event, Sam Samuel, 59, from Shaw who runs the Oldham club, said: “It’s not about raising money it’s about celebrating men’s health and a chance to get members’ families involved and reunite former members.
“It’s humbling to meet sisters and mums who have seen the change in their brothers or dads who use the club”.
Sam started off as a member and now mentors other men. He was brought back from the brink of suicide after admitting to others how he was truly feeling – now he’s living a happier, more fulfilled life using his own experiences to help other men open up and find the support they need.
Sam is hoping to get local businesses involved in the event and has found a DJ, yet to be revealed, to play at half their usual price for the celebration.
The event will be from 7pm to 12.30am on June 18.
