Andy Burnham said he would look into allowing dogs and unfolded bikes on trams in his reelection manifesto.
Nearly one year later, Transport for Greater Manchester has revealed a trial is set to go ahead later this year.
Greater Manchester reelected Mr Burnham as mayor for Greater Manchester with an increased vote share.
One of his commitments read: “We will pilot allowing dogs and bikes on trams during off-peak times and consult the people before making any final changes.”
Now, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has confirmed that a trial of pooches on trams will begin later this year.
However, the pilot will only be concentrating on dogs – TfGM say there is no news about bringing unfolded bikes on board yet.
Folded bikes are already allowed on Metrolink, as are assistance dogs.
Dogs and unfolded bicycles are already allowed on Manchester’s trains, and dogs are allowed on many local bus services too.
In London, many Underground and Overground lines already allow unfolded bikes in off-peak periods – and dogs can be taken onboard services free of charge too.
