Starting this weekend, there will be some major alterations to bus services in Oldham, with some being withdrawn and new ones being introduced to replace them.

The changes come into effect on Sunday, April 24 and look to improve connectivity and access to the Metrolink.

There is also set to be an increase in services which run during the evenings and on Sundays.

The 408 service which runs between Oldham and Rochdale and the 435, operated by Rosso and running between Buckstones Estate and Rochdale, will no longer be in operation as of Sunday.

The 408, which has been operated by First Bus Manchester, will be replaced by several services.

Passengers travelling between Shaw and Oldham can now use services 57, 402 and 403.

Those who travel between Shaw and Oldham Hospital, meanwhile, can use the 182 and 402 and people travelling between High Crompton and Rochdale can use the new R9 and R10 services.

These new services look to improve travel between Rochdale and Shaw, with both running between Rochdale Interchange and Shaw and Crompton Metrolink station.

The R9 will run via Turf Hill Road, while the R10 will run via Milnrow.

Both of the new services will be operated by Rosso.

The 402 and 403, operated by Nexus Move and Stotts respectively, are both having their routes altered in order to replace the 408 bus.

The 402, having previously run between Derker and Royton, has now been extended to Shaw and Crompton Metrolink and will run via Grains Road, Hannerton Road, Hillside Avenue, Buckstones Road, Milnrow Road passing Wrens Nest.

Evening and Sunday services will also be added.

Meanwhile, the 403 will run via Higginshaw Road instead of Rochdale Road, replacing the 402 in this area, and will see extended operating hours.

Another new service to be added is the 411, which will travel between Oldham and Derker and be operated by Manchester Community Transport.

The bus changes are also set to impact the journey for some school students.

The 408 and 435 are used by students attending Crompton House School, and they will be able to use either the 402, R9 or R10.

Pupils at North Chadderton School and Royton and Crompton School will also be able to use the 402 instead of the 832 and 830, respectively.

Students won't be able to purchase a £7.60 school weekly ticket on the 402, R9 or R10 and will have to buy Rosso's GM Saver weekly ticket for £10, or System One's weekly ticket for £10.30.
