CANCER charity Maggie’s Oldham is planning to turn the borough orange in celebration of its fifth birthday.
The charity is on the hunt for schools, colleges, and companies, to wear orange, the organisation’s signature colour, and fundraise for its Go Outrageously Orange campaign on June 10.
Trish Morgan, centre head at Maggie’s Oldham, said: “We want to turn Oldham orange in June to celebrate our fifth birthday in style.
"We’ve loved seeing all the photos of people taking part from the last couple of years, and we want this year to be bigger and better than ever.”
Since opening the doors of the Sir Norman Stoller Building in June 2017, the Maggie’s centre has welcomed 36,000 visits from people with cancer and their families and friends.
The charity offers free, practical, and emotional support to people with cancer and their families.
Despite Maggie’s sitting alongside the Royal Oldham, the centre is specifically designed to feel nothing like the hospital next door and was created with Oldham’s Pennine backdrop in mind.
Last month the centre’s garden featured on the BBC Two programme Your Garden Made Perfect as a source of inspiration for award-winning garden designer Oliver Bond.
The garden, designed by Rupert Muldoon, was created to provide a calming and healing space for the cancer patients visiting Maggie’s.
