An Oldham takeaway handed the worst possible food hygiene rating has had the score reversed within a month.

Tasty Fried Chicken, based at 261-263 Featherstall Road North, was initially visited by Oldham Council's food health team last month.

Inspectors were not impressed during the March 15 assessment and gave the business a food hygiene score of zero out of five - meaning 'urgent improvement necessary'.

All scores are based on three criteria - Food Hygiene and Safety, Structural Compliance and Confidence in Management.

For Food Hygiene and Safety, it was rated as 'improvement necessary' meaning: "Some major non-compliance with statutory obligations – more effort required to prevent fall in standards."

The takeaway was rated as 'Major improvement necessary', meanwhile, for both Structural Compliance, the condition of the building, and Confidence in Management.

For compliance, this means: "General failure to satisfy statutory obligations – standards generally low."

And Confidence in Management: "Varying record of compliance. Poor appreciation of hazards and control measures. No food safety management system."

After a follow-up inspection on April 11, however, the business has been rated as five stars - the top score possible and meaning standards are 'very good'.

During its last inspection in November 2019, Tasty Fried Chicken had been rated two stars.

The business is rated as 3.9 out of five stars on Google reviews, with a mix of extremely happy and very disappointed customers.

The takeaway's website boasts it is 'the best fast food takeaway in Oldham'.

An earlier version of this story did not include the updated five-star rating.

We are happy to add the subsequent score, which was updated on the Food Standards Agency website today (April 20).
