AN Oldham singer whose YouTube and Spotify channels have racked up millions of views has launched a charity appeal this Ramadan.
Naseeb Abbas, 32, from Glodwick better known as nasheed singer Prince Naseeb, is currently raising funds for the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) an international Islamic orphan charity based in Pakistan.
Naseeb left his previous job as a bus driver two years ago to become a full-time ambassador for KORT having raised around £3m for charities since he first started fundraising in 2017 for the Human Relief Foundation.
The fundraiser and father of two also works as a wedding singer and has attended 50 weddings in the last year alone.
Naseeb said: “My singing and charity fundraising work hand in hand. I walk out of weddings having performed with thousands of pounds worth of donations.”
The singer, who sings in Urdu, Punjabi, Arabic and English, also uses his social media platforms to spread awareness of the charitable causes he supports.
Naseeb, who has hundreds and thousands of followers, said: “When I first went on a charity deployment to the Syrian border to support refugees in 2017 with the Human Relief Foundation, I posted a link on my social media channels.
“It was a big jump for me. I had never done charity work before, so it was a big shock when I raised £45,000. Since then, I haven’t stopped.”
In February 2020, the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan visited the Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust and was ‘very impressed’, according to Naseeb who has gone to the trust’s headquarters this month to continue work on a project that will see a £10m state of the art hospital built.
Previous KORT projects include building houses in Pakistan, creating water filtration systems, and supplying hospitals with oxygen tanks and ventilators.
Naseeb, who had a childhood dream of being a singer, is just as committed to his charity endeavours.
In January he spent just six hours with his newborn daughter before heading to Pakistan for a charity deployment.
Discussing his love of charity work, Naseeb said: “I love to make a difference with my own hands and see the work for myself.”
In February 2020 Naseeb appeared on Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway after a TV producer came across his charity work on social media.
He said: “It was an amazing experience and a complete surprise, my sister had planned it all.”
