The steady march of the battalion of clogs on their Easter journey around Oldham villages celebrated the return of Saddleworth Morris Men.

After a two-year absence, the colourful procession quickly restored faith in the much-loved tradition with villagers turning out to support them.

Richard Hankinson, the former squire of the morris, said it was good to be out dancing after such a long time.

He said: “The weather was kind to us which brought people out and we had some nice comments from spectators as well. It's nice to know you've been missed.”

They started at Road End, Greenfield on Maundy Thursday evening where new member, Gary Croad, should have danced for his waistcoat but he was unable to do so as he was injured.

Good Friday began with breakfast at The Clarence and after dancing there they visited Delph, Diggle, Dobcross and Uppermill finishing at The Cross Keys and Church Inn.

Richard said: "Saddleworth Morris would like to thank everyone for watching and their support.”
