Two men have died following a horror crash between a car and motorbike in Royton earlier today.

Shortly before 11am emergency services were called to reports of a crash involving a grey Ford Kuga and yellow Suzuki off-road motorbike on High Barn Street near the junction of Cardigan Street.

Despite the efforts of first responders, the rider and pillion passenger of the motorbike - men aged 20 and 21 respectively - suffered critical injuries and died at the scene.

A statement by Greater Manchester Police tonight said their families had been informed and specialist officers are working to support them.

The driver of the Ford remained at the scene and is assisting GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit with their enquiries.

No arrests have been made and anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have been driving through the area and has dash-cam footage is urged to contact police.

Sergeant Phil Shaw, of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "My thoughts go out to the families of the two young men who have tragically lost their lives today after this awful incident.

"We are doing what we can to understand how this collision came to be to ensure that the families of both victims are given the answers they need, and our specialist officers are offering them support at this devastating time.

"If you were in the area shortly before 11am and have dash-cam footage, or may have seen the vehicles involved in this collision, then I urge you to contact us so we can piece together as much information we can to establish the circumstances of this morning's events."

Anyone with information should call 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1045 of 15/04/2022.

Details can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
