Employees at a furniture fittings company in Oldham have raised more than £1,000 to help Ukrainian children.

Hill's Panel Products (HPP), based on Scottfield Road, held a day of fundraising, which saw a cake sale, a barbecue, money-saving football scratchcards being sold and donation buckets being carried around.

Workers were also asked to wear blue and yellow for the Ukrainian flag and were asked to donate £2 each.

In total, the employees raised £1,069.

The money is set to be donated to Unicef, the United Nations Children's Fund, who are providing funds to support Ukraine’s 7.5 million children caught up in the growing humanitarian crisis as a result of the conflict taking place.

HPP's managing director Keith Wardrope, who had the idea for the fundraising day, said: "We wanted to provide humanitarian aid to the people of Ukraine, especially the children, which is why we chose Unicef as the charity.

"We felt that it was only right that we did something to raise money to do our bit to support those who have been forced to flee their homes."

HPP are a board, door and furniture fittings manufacturer based near Alexandra Park.
