PLANS to turn a former pub in Oldham into eight flats have been approved by the council.
An application for the Egerton Arms on Egerton Street was submitted in September of last year.
The former pub in Derker is derelict at the moment and in need of a full refurbishment, with new internal walls, new windows and structural work all on the to-do list, according to the application.
There are proposals to demolish a block of toilets to the rear of the building to create an area for bin and cycle storage, and to add a first-floor extension at the side of the building.
The application submitted to the council reads: “The eight flats will be a great addition to Oldham.
“The site is based on Egerton Street in both a commercial and residential sector with easy access to amenities, public transport, parking and walking distance into the town centre.”
A consultation on the plans ran from their submission in September to October 18, but no neighbours or other residents made comments.
In a decision dated April 14, planning officers approved the application with conditions, including an obligation to start work to turn the Egerton Arms into flats within three years.
The decision reads: “The proposed development complies with the Local Development Framework which would improve and maintain the social, economic and environmental conditions of the area.
“It therefore comprises sustainable development which is conditioned accordingly to enhance the quality of development and where necessary the Local Planning Authority offered proactive and positive solutions during the decision-making process.”
