CANCER charity Maggie’s Oldham has made a surprise TV appearance.

Presenter Angela Scanlon and the award-winning garden designer Oliver Bond visited the charity’s garden on the BBC Two programme Your Garden Made Perfect.

In the show, which first aired on Friday night, Oliver visited the charity’s garden, designed by Rupert Muldoon, to take inspiration from the colours, sounds and textures.

The garden was created to provide a calming and healing space for the cancer patients visiting Maggie’s.

Describing the garden on the programme, Oliver said: “It’s a hidden little gem where you feel like you’re in a woodland.”

The garden has a silver birch tree at its centre that ascends into the building, as well as rain ponds and pebble paths.

Oliver added: “It’s calming. By using the whites of the birch tree and the shades of green it creates a nice calming environment with pastel colours. It’s a big hug, you feel protected.”

Despite Maggie’s sitting alongside the Royal Oldham, the centre is specifically designed to feel nothing like the hospital next door and was created with Oldham’s Pennine backdrop in mind.

Since opening in 2017, Maggie’s Oldham has been offering free, practical and emotional support to people with cancer and their families.

Your Garden Made Perfect is available to watch on the iPlayer now.
