PLANS have been granted to turn a home in Oldham into a “high standard” eight-bedroom house in multiple occupation (HMO).
A retrospective change-of-use application was sent to the council to convert a semi-detached property on Shaw Street into a HMO.
A document with the plans said the applicant said the development would be an “appropriate use for the property, providing well maintained, professionally managed private rented accommodation being located close to the town centre and transport routes”.
The plans said: “The applicant intends to offer fully furnished residential accommodation of a high specification to working professionals.
“This type of all-inclusive accommodation is becoming increasingly popular within the private rented sector as it allows tenants to accurately budget for all their accommodation costs.
“The bedrooms will be well sized (all well above the current standards for single rooms) and all with ensuite bathrooms, more than complying with the Housing Act and Oldham's HMO standards, and will be newly refurbished to a high standard throughout.
“Many of the occupants of the applicants HMO's are professionals including a large number of NHS and front line services staff.
“The increase in working people to the area brings with it economic benefits for the whole community and area and take a boarded up building giving it a new purpose in the community.”
