With the cost of living on the rise, our wallets are feeling lighter after every trip to the pump.
When we asked Oldhamers about the cost of living crisis, petrol prices were one of your main concerns.
So, we decided to check the prices ourselves.
While walking, cycling, or taking public transport can help to soften the blow of rising fuel costs (as well as have a benefit for the climate), sometimes a trip in the car is unavoidable – so, if you have to fill up, here are some of the cheapest places as of March 9, 2022.
1. Costco Oldham (Members only)
If you have a Costco membership, this is the cheapest for you. Costco membership starts from £33.60 a year for an individual, subject to eligibility requirements.
- Unleaded: 146.9p
- Diesel 151.9p
2. Sainsbury’s Oldham
The town centre Sainsbury’s is one of the cheapest places to fill up in Oldham now.
- Unleaded: 148.9p
- Diesel: 153.9p
3. Morrisons Oldham
Just 0.8p a litre dearer than Sainsbury’s for Unleaded and Diesel – with prices ending in increments of 0.7p rather than the more common 0.9p.
- Unleaded: 149.7p
- Diesel: 154.7p
4. Tesco Superstore
Every Little might Help at Tesco – but if you fill up here, you’ll be paying more than if you were to visit Costco, Sainsbury’s, or Morrisons.
- Unleaded: 153.9p
- Diesel: 156.9p
- Momentum99: 160.9p
5. Gulf, Lees
Cheaper than BP Featherstall Road for Unleaded, but Diesel is more expensive.
- Unleaded: 157.9p
- Diesel: 169.9p
6. Shell, Lees Road
Cheaper for Unleaded, but Diesel is more expensive than the next two options.
- Unleaded: 157.9p
- Diesel: 171.9p
7. BP, Featherstall Road South
More expensive than Gulf for Unleaded but comes in slightly cheaper for Diesel.

8. Esso Longside
- Unleaded: 159.9
