A FIRE in the kitchen of the Istanbul Restaurant on Yorkshire Street, Oldham yesterday (Saturday) led to a major turnout by emergency services.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire & Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 8am this morning (Saturday, March 5) firefighters were called to reports of a fire in the kitchen of a restaurant on Yorkshire Street, Oldham.

“Seven fire engines, including specialist support units, attended the scene, and crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to quickly extinguish the fire.

“Fire crews helped to remove four occupants from the building, who were then conveyed to the care of our colleagues at North West Ambulance Service, before working to clear and make the area safe.

“GMFRS were at the scene for around four hours.”

Yorkshire Street was partially closed for a time.
