PARKLIFE FESTIVAL officially kicks off this weekend – and new research suggests many Airbnb owners have upped their prices especially for it.

Out of all of the events and festivals that take place across the UK, research found that the Heaton Park festival saw one of the biggest increase in Airbnb prices.

According to research by money.co.uk, Manchester’s Airbnb owners are charging over 90 per cent more to stay at their properties during the Parklife Festival weekend.

The study investigated the average nightly price of rentals on Airbnb over the dates and locations of the UK’s biggest festivals throughout 2021.

The prices were then compared to the corresponding dates of the previous week to reveal which festivals increase Airbnb prices the most.

Airbnb prices during Parklife weekend saw a 90.5 per cent increase and the average price during the event jumps from £95 per night to £181 per night when the festival is on.

It was ranked the second worst festival in the UK for Airbnb hikes.

According to hotel booking platform, Booking.com, 86 per cent of all Manchester accommodation is unavailable to book from 11 September to 12 September (based on booking for two people).

Currently, the cheapest place to book at the time of writing is a guest house and they are charging £163 for a night.

The very same guest house is charging just £45 a night for a night on the 18th September.

Even Britannia Hotels in the area, known for their reasonable prices, are currently charging upwards of £199 for a night.

Parklife is a festival taking place in a city-centre location with no camping available, so it is no surprise to see Airbnbs in Manchester being booked up quickly, despite increasing rental prices.

However, Parklife's figures are nothing compared to TRNSMT Festival in Glasgow which sees a whopping 104 per cent increase when the festival is on.

TRNSMT is also a non-camping festival, meaning alternative accommodation has to be found, which is presumably why TRNSMT saw the greatest increase in Airbnb prices over the festival weekend.

When is Parklife 2021 and who is performing?

The 2020 festival had to be cancelled, but this year's will go ahead over the weekend of September 11 and 12.

The sold-out event has plenty of top acts lined up and ready to perform; it will be headlined by Dave, Skepta, AJ Tracey and Disclosure to name a few.
