WELCOME to The Oldham Times Pub of the Week.

Each week we feature a pub in the community.

If you would like to be next week’s publican email editorial@theoldhamtimes.co.uk

This week's chosen pub is The Angel Inn on Shaw Road, Royton, Oldham which re-opened with a bang in May by hosting a belated Christmas party.

Here pub manager Carly Brotherdale who runs the pub alongside partner Aidan Heap answers our Q&A.

Who are the bar staff and what are their names? Kerri Slicker, Esme Smith and Macy Laurie.

Can you give us some of the pub's history? It was built over 200 years ago and has a pigeon club which was established well over 75 years ago.

What is the pub known for? Live sports from BT and Sky sports shown on our seven foot HD projector screen, five big screens and our outdoor screen with live commentary. The pub also has a friendly and clean atmosphere and hosts an open mic night with musician Mark Stelfox every Thursday at 9pm and live artists every Friday 5pm-8pm and Saturday 9pm-12am.

Is food served ? Our kitchen is rented to the amazing Street Grub which is ordered through Just Eat and can be eaten within the pub. The menu is available on Just Eat with monthly specials. The belly pork is to die for.

Is there a beer garden? Yes with the original cobbled stones. Life on Mars from the BBC was filmed in our beer garden many years ago.

Do you have any darts/snooker/pool teams? We do but due to covid these cannot yet resume. Usually our darts team plays each Monday with Aidan Heap as the captain. Pool is played every Wednesday.

What is the most popular drink served? A toss up between JWLees cask bitter or JWLees Original Lager which both are kept to a high standard. Our cask bitter is clarity in a glass.

What is your most memorable moment at the pub? Meeting so many customers I now class as friends.

Have you faced any challenges within the industry over the last year? Covid has been the biggest challenge, the financial and mental strain has sometimes been unbearable.

What is best thing about running the pub? Seeing smiling faces of people having fun and enjoying themselves.

What is the worst thing about running the pub? The late nights and early mornings.

What is you perfect hangover cure? Hair of the dog.
