A PUB in the heart of the town is getting ready to celebrate Oldham Pride in style.
The George Tavern on George Street, a popular LGBTQ+ establishment, is hosting a day of fun on Saturday, July 24, hosted by its landlady Terri Fox.
After the event was forced to be cancelled last year due to the pandemic, organisers are raring to go to deliver a weekend to remember for revellers.
Plans were already in place to make sure this year’s event could be held safely to ensure social distancing was followed.
But it seems very likely the government will sign off on a further easing of the rules on Monday, July 19, days before Pride.
This will allow more people to attend the festival and get in the spirit of things.
The entertainment at the pub will kick off at 1pm.
Miss DQ – The Diamond Diva and Belinda Scandal are among the acts with music performed by Blaq Ivory and Miss Mel as well as a DJ.
But there are many other entertainers set to take to the stage to extend the party long into the evening.
The George Tavern’s beer garden has been decorated in Pride rainbow colours with Terri excited to get ready to play a major part in the festival.
She said: “I think Pride is very important for Oldham.
“With being so near to Manchester people forget that we have a LGBTQ+ community here.
“We also have a very loyal customers that come to the pub too.
“We have an amazing line-up of acts performing.
“It is going to be the most amazing day.”
The pub will also be holding a raffle to raise money for the LGBTQ+ community.
Terri added that her close friend and former stage partner Jay James died in the 1980s aged 23 after having HIV.
Anyone wanting raise money for the community, including businesses, can also contact Terri at the pub or get in touch with her on social media.
