CHILDREN at Alexandra Park Junior School in Oldham are celebrating Eid this week with treats, parties, and games.
The school’s PSHE leader, Samantha Nicholson-Hickling called the school a family “in its own way” which celebrates religious festivals, including Eid, together.
She said: “Usually, we would hold our Eid Singing Square and sing together to celebrate the holidays, however due to Covid-19 restrictions we have had to keep our celebrations in class and on a smaller level.”
Eid-ul-Fitr, sometimes called Little Eid, celebrates the end of Ramadan, a month whereby Muslim's are asked to fast from sunrise to sunset and take time out for spiritual reflection and prayer. It is also known as the Festival of Breaking the Fast. The date varies year to year due to the lunar calendar with Eid this year landing on May 13.
Ms Nicholson-Hickling added: “I am sure we all look forward to being able to celebrate properly again in the future. Eid Mubarak to all those celebrating, and I hope it will be a much happier one this year with the restrictions slowly beginning to release. I know many of our children are looking forward to seeing family outdoors and celebrating."
