A MAN was stabbed in a shocking machete attack in Shaw last night.
Police were called to Duchess Street at around 6.40pm after reports of an assault.
Officers arrived and discovered a 37-year-old man was attacked by a man carrying a machete.
Paramedics went to the scene and the victim was taken to hospital with a stab wound and suffered other injuries.
Greater Manchester Police say he is in a "stable" condition.
The force added that two men, aged 23 and 31, have been arrested on suspicion of serious assault and a machete has been recovered.
The attack is being treated as an "isolated incident".
A GMP spokesman said: "At around 6.40pm on Saturday, police were called to reports of an assault on Duchess Street, Shaw.
"Enquiries have established that a 37-year-old man was attacked by a man who was in possession of a machete.
"Emergency services attended and the victim was taken to hospital with a stab wound as well as minor injuries to his chest and arm.
"He remains in a stable condition.
"Two men – aged 23 and 31 – have been arrested on suspicion of serious assault and a machete has been recovered.
Both men remain in police custody for questioning.
"Police are treating this as an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public."
