POLICE are investigating a series of car fires in the Oldham area overnight (Sunday to Monday, September 27 to 28).

Firefighters from the town's main station were called to Ripponden Road in Moorside at about 9.30pm where a Peugeot 207 was ignited and written off.

Then at 1.30am they went the rear of a dentist's surgery in Glodwick Road, where an apparently abandoned mini-bus taxi was set ablaze. They were called back to the scene three hours later when the vehicle was ignited again after the initial fire was put out.

Another crew from Hollins was simultaneously called to a car in an alleyway off Glodwick Road.
