SIX fire crews from around Greater Manchester were called out to tackle a large moorland fire above Dovestone Reservoir on Monday afternoon.
Chadderton firefighters were among those dealing with the blaze between Chew Reservoir and Holmfirth Road which covered a mile wide area and started at around 4pm, according to a Chadderton Red watch manager Peter Marshall.
They fought for two hours to bring two seats of fire under control.
An investigation into the cause will begin tomorrow, said watch manager Marshall.
Meanwhile, two fire engines from Oldham and Ashton spent around three hours putting out a large grass fire at Mill Brow at around 3pm.
A spokesman for Oldham Fire Station said the blaze covered a 600 metre area and the cause will be investigated.
Firefighters from Oldham back to the moors at Manor Lane at about 8pm the same evening to tackle a blaze affecting 200 square metre area.
Four appliances and an aerial drone were used to tackle the blaze which took two hours to put out.
