Avro manager Alex Frost believes that the future is bright for his side, despite finishing their North West Counties Premier Division league season in disappointing fashion with a 2-0 defeat against Winsford United at the Vestacare Stadium on Saturday, writes Liam Bambridge.

A goal in each half was more than enough to give the visitors all three points, and Frost felt that it was another reminder to his players of the standards needed to be successful in what continues to be a very competitive division.

"We deserved nothing from the game", Frost said. "Winsford were better in possession, moved the ball quicker and were stronger in the tackle.

"We have plenty of quality in our squad, but if you don’t do the basics well enough in this division, you get punished. You just don’t win games if you are not at your best. It’s a very unforgiving league, the bar is set high and we have to match that every single week if we want to do even better next year."

The planning for that new campaign in August has already begun in earnest, with captain Jake Cottrell and Kane Wallwork signing the first two contracts offered to players in the club’s history.

Frost admits that he was delighted to get the duo tied down for the forthcoming season. "Anyone who has watched Jake perform over the last season will know just how he is valuable to our team and our club. He epitomises the attitude, the work rate and the quality that we are going to need if we are going to progress.’

"As for Kane, for me he is a player that gets better every week. I remember speaking to him when I was a player rather than his manager, telling him that he could play as high as he wanted to and have a really good non league career if he knuckled down and committed to playing left back every week. I genuinely believe that he can play as high as the Northern Premier League and maybe even Conference North.

"Both players have plenty of admirers at a higher level, so I am obviously delighted that they have chosen to commit to spending next season with us."
