Ahead of the upcoming local elections in Oldham on May 2, The Oldham Times has contacted the parties and independent candidates to ask for a short biography of each person standing.

Here are the biographies for the Conservative candidates standing this year.

Moudud Ahmed – Chadderton North

I am Moudud Ahmed.  I am a family man who has lived in Chadderton for more than 20 years.

I work in IT supporting our front-line NHS staff.

I am proud of Chadderton and believe that our residents deserve to be better served by their councillors and Council.

I support measures to freeze council tax, save our green spaces and tackle crime and antisocial behaviour.

As an elected councillor, I would be a strong voice, calling for a better deal for Chadderton.

Chris McManus- St James

I am Chris McManus.  I live with my family in Oldham, where I was born and bred.

I am delighted to be selected to stand as the Conservative Party candidate in the St James ward.

I am proud of where I come from, and I want the best possible Oldham for all our residents.

If elected, I would call for an independent inquiry into historic CSE in Oldham, advocate an audit into the councils’ finances and fight Labours plans to build on our Greenbelt.

I would support measures to freeze council tax and to repair our roads.

Max Woodvine - Saddleworth South

To have so far served Saddleworth for five years has been a privilege and I thank you for your support in that time. I hope this May you will continue that support by electing me for the third time.

The Labour-controlled Council in Oldham has consistently side-lined Saddleworth, whilst simultaneously treating our community as a cash cow - rinsing residents with exorbitant Council Tax rises every year. On the other side of the same coin, the Liberal Democrats also voted for increased rates offering no opposition.

Local Conservatives were the only Party to propose a fully costed Council Tax freeze as we believe you shouldn’t have to pay a penny more for the subpar services of this failing Council. Saddleworth pays in over £20 million per annum so we need to ensure the basics are done right and you are getting good value for money.

I will consistently make the case for fairer funding, improved provisions and better services for our villages. I will always oppose the loss of precious green spaces and mismanagement of the Council coffers. I will support our superb community organisations in their invaluable voluntary work.

In Saddleworth South Ward, which I am so proud to represent, I pledge to continue my tradition of public service - positively contributing to our communities, strongly standing up for Saddleworth, and robustly defending residents’ interests.

With my record of action and a promise of more, I hope to earn your support for the third time this May.

Lewis Quigg - Royton North

I live in Royton with my family and have been the elected councillor for Royton North since 2023.  I work in the financial sector.

I have been a consistently strong voice for Royton since my election and have called for an independent inquiry into CSE in Oldham, a freeze in council tax, improved support and funding for our town centre and precinct and have robustly held the failing Labour council to account.

I have supported local sports clubs, youth organisations, schools’ charities, and residents’ groups.

I will continue to oppose the councils plans to build on our Greenbelt.
