Oldham’s second Starbucks has opened just three months after the company’s first full coffee shop in the borough opened in Chadderton.
The borough had previously had a Starbucks in the back of the Tesco Chadderton superstore, but this subsequently closed.
The newest Starbucks, which includes a drive-thru facility, opened on Friday, December 15.
I went down to see what all the fuss was about.
The cafe is located off the busy Manchester Road, not far from the borough’s new Tim Hortons, which opened in April this year.

Inside, there’s plenty of seating in a light and airy cafe, which has everything you’d expect from a Starbucks location, including pastries, cakes, and savoury foods – as well as hot drinks, of course.
I ordered a ‘small’ Hazelnut hot chocolate off the company’s special Christmas menu, as well as a three-cheese hot toastie. The cashier appeared slightly confused and asked if I wanted a ‘tall’ drink – the Starbucks term for small.
After I repeated ‘small’, she made me my drink as usual, which was perfectly acceptable Starbucks quality.
Gillian Bychowiec, who was sitting inside the cafe, said she would give it a five-star review after ordering a three-cheese toastie and a large toffee nut latte.
The 62-year-old Coppice resident said she had found out about the cafe after her daughter drove past the day before.
She added that she was ‘very much so’ excited about the new Starbucks and called her meal ‘absolutely beautiful’.

A Starbucks spokesperson said: “We're excited to bring the Starbucks Experience to more customers in Oldham since opening our 20,000th store outside of North America there earlier this year, and can confirm the store on Bowling Street opened on Friday 15 December, creating 20 jobs in the local community.
“We’ll be in touch once we have more specific plans to share about our newest store in Alexandra Retail Park.”
