POLICE say a body found Dovestone Reservoir yesterday is believed to be a woman in her 50s.
They were called to the popular beauty spot yesterday afternoon.
A GMP spokesperson said: "Shortly after 2.10pm police were called to reports that a body had been found at Dove Stones Reservoir.
"Officers attended and found the body of a woman believed to be in her 50s.
"Enquiries surrounding the death are ongoing but it’s not thought there are any suspicious circumstances. "
Fire crews from Mossley and Stalybridge along with the Greater Manchester Fire Service Water Incident Unit based at Heywood Fire Station attended to assistant.
Heywood watch manager, Chris Fowles, said: "We were called out to recover the body of a female at around 2.30pm."
"When we when arrived we were no longer needed as recovery had already taken place and we had no further involvement in the incident.
"Two fire appliances, the water incident unit, the ambulance service and the heart start team were in attendance.
"We are not unaware whether family has been informed or relatives have been traced at this stage. The police are investigating."
